This area is designed to answer some questions about paint and the application.

How do I care for my flat walls? For light stains and dirt, use a wet cellulose sponge and soap.  Pre-treat with Ivory soap and water solution mixed together in a spray bottle and wipe lightly with wet sponge. Dry with a paper towel or soft cloth. Abrasive agents are not recommended.

How do I care for my semi-gloss walls? Follow procedure above.  For heavier stains, a mild abrasive may be used instead of soap.  Heavy stains may require more than one cleaning.  Aggressive scrubbing may remove some of the finish or leave a burnish mark.

How do I fill nail holes and little dings on the walls and casings?  Use light spackle to fill holes in drywall and wood.  Use only enough to fill the repair and remove access with your finger or a putty knife.  When dry, sand lightly to conform with surface.  Remove sanding dust and touch up.

How do I touch up? Use a dry brush and feather the paint over the surface, brushing in all directions.  You may have to thin the paint a little so the brush marks will be minimal. More than one coat may be necessary to hide black marks.  When touching up with  an eggshell, semi-gloss or gloss enamel, you may see a slight higher sheen than the existing finish.  This will dull with time.  Using a dry brush and only enough paint to cover the repair or stain will lessen the effect.

How do I repair and touch up exterior stucco?  Remember that this finish has been exposed to sun, rain and dirt.  The touch up should be as small as possible to lessen the effect of the wear and tear difference.  Repair stucco cracks with an elastomeric caulk.  Be sure to keep the caulk inside the repair and avoid smearing it on the stucco.  Repair holes with caulk, exterior spackle or stucco patch. Feather the touch up to help blend with the surrounding area.

Why do professional painters thin the paint with water? The paint manufacturers are making the paint from scratch with a percentage of solids, resin, water and other chemicals. Rather then adding water at the factory and shipping the water to us, they allow us to use local water to thin the paint to their specifications, this will save both of us money,  Remember, it is always better to apply two thin coats of paint then one thick coat.  You will receive the recommended 1.5 to 3 mil of paint coating as is specified by your builder.
